There are so many ways to embrace this festival of fire to welcome this period of purification and transition. Beltane marks the midway between Spring and Summer. It is a time of universal harmony that celebrates love, vitality, fertility, and welcomes the blossoming of the season.
While bonfires and May poles are often staples in larger Beltane festivites, you can honor the day on a smaller scale. Planting an herb garden (or just some seeds or a flower you like - do what feels right) is one way to connect with the energy of this time. Working directly with nature to cultivate a future. This celebration of fertility and love and life is sure to bring some happy gardens.
If gardening isn't your thing but the kitchen carries your tune, try making some herbal blends for incense. Common herbs included in these are frankincense, rose, mugwort, violets, rosemary, bay leaves, calendula, lavender, and anise. If none of these call to you, follow your fire. Incense is great for setting the tone and helping shape the energy in a space. If you prefer more food related kitchen magic, take some time to prepare some herb-infused butter or salt for use later. Harness the Beltane energy for later.
Metaphorical digging is an alternative to the physical work in the kitchen or garden. Take some time to yourself and consider your future. Appreciate the time that you've put in and evaluate what is still to come. Be honest with yourself about your needs and wants. Give yourself permission to release incomplete tasks from your to do list if completing them will no longer serve you. The universe is conspiring to help you walk your most authentic path.
The fire of Beltane is not simply literal fire. It is the fire of the human spirit - the vital force that burns inside of us and fuels our days as we travel through life. This day is about connecting with that passion inside of yourself and honoring your place in the grand design. We are here and alive and thriving (or trying). Do it big with a bonfire and group rituals or by yourself on a meditative walk through a garden. Dance freely as though a fairy controls your spirit. Make flower crowns. Find new and exciting ways to connect to your youthful spirit and honor your growing self.
